Milwaukee Bucks breakout star point guard Brandon Jennings was fined for using his Twitter account too soon after a game by the National Basketball Association. The fine was only seventy five hundred dollars. This happens to be a very small amount of money even for a guy like Jennings who is of course operating under a rookie contract. Jennings also made over one million dollars playing in the Italian League last year, so with big checks like that rolling in, small fines over Twitter are no big deal.

This is the second time a Milwaukee Bucks player has been fined for using Twitter while being on their roster. The player who was fined by Scott Skilles for using Twitter during half time now plays for the Pistons. Jennings was simply trying to express his excitement over the fact that his team had just beaten the Portland Trail Blazers in a very exciting contest. Jennings reportedly had no idea that it was too soon after the game to begin using Twitter. The fact that he was celebrating over a win in a non taunting way and still fined, has given some people in the NBA reason to worry that they are now working for a no fun league.

Global (ChattahBox) – Twitter users found themselves unable to log in Friday night after a group of hackers calling themselves the ‘Iranian Cyber Army’ changed the settings of Twitter’s DNS to redirect to another page.

In what is possible one of the more impressive (and pointless) hacks of the year, the self-proclaimed Iranian Cyber Army redirected users to a page that spoke of their country’s apparent ’supremacy’ in the online world:

“This site has been hacked by the Iranian Cyber Army.

“The USA thinks they control and manage internet access, but they don’t. We control and manage the internet with our power, so do not try to the incite Iranian people.”

It was a rather weak message, in and of itself, and an almost laughable act of supposed sabotage.

However, the hack itself was fairly inspired.

Not many would be able to track down and access the administrative sign in information for a supersite like Twitter, and then happily change the domain name settings without tipping off alarm bells immediately. The site was down for several hours on a global scale.

While I don’t support or condone the actions of the Iranian Cyber Army, or any hackers, I am reluctantly impressed by what was quite a feat.

Even if the reasons behind seemed like a petulant child vying for attention.

Morse which is the consultancy firm surveyed 1460 office workers and found that more than half of the respondents use Twitter and Facebook during working hours. It is a waste of average 40 minutes per week on working time.

Morse consultant Philip Wicks said that if the proper use of social networking sites, you can play a positive effect on the professional, but companies must understand that it is not really what happened. 1 / 3 of respondents said that they have seen sensitive information of the corporate on social networking sites; 3 / 4 of respondents said that employers didn’t require them how to use social networking sites; 84% of people believe that whether they use social networking sites appropriately should be considered for the content of the post. Human resources experts said that with the younger generation entering the labor market, British companies must inevitably let employees use social networking sites.

One of the greatest ways businesses and professionals can use Twitter is as a customer service tool. More and more companies are starting to monitor their online reputation and respond to customer inquiries posted on Twitter, and the companies that do this successfully can benefit in a number of ways.

While large and well-known companies are the most visible when it comes to interacting with customers on Twitter, customer service can be a focus of every professional, whether you have an established small business or if you’re a freelancer.

The Benefits of Customer Service in Social Media

There are so many positive benefits that can be gained from a successful customer service-oriented presence on Twitter. Here are a few to consider:

Find Out What Your Clients Really Want

One key way to get value out of Twitter in terms of a customer service tool is by listening. If you’re able to track conversations related not only to your specific business, but also among potential clients discussing their needs, you will gain invaluable insight into what your clients really want from you.

This can play a huge role in your marketing and sales efforts because you can tailor your offerings to meet the individual needs you’ve witnessed discussion about on Twitter, and take time to focus on what current clients are saying outside of your own interactions.

Make Your Clients Feel Valued

There is nothing worse to an unhappy customer than feeling like no one cares. When you invest in a product or service, you have certain expectations about what you will receive in return. And when those expectations are not met, you wind up with a bitter taste in your mouth.

There’s already a serious problem if your clients are moving right to Twitter to air their issues instead of approaching you first. But on an everyday basis, you can watch what your clients are saying and learn to anticipate their needs before they even make it known to you. This type of preventative customer service will create loyal and long-term client relationships.

Happy Clients = Referrals

It’s a well-known fact that word of mouth marketing is powerful. And if you have clients who are extraordinarily happy with the service you provide, you will likely see an increase in referrals. If your clients are inclined to sing your praises, Twitter is a great outlet in which to do that. And if they’re used to communicating with you on Twitter already, you’re positioned to benefit. By retweeting and outwardly supporting your clients on Twitter, you will increase the likelihood that they will take reciprocal actions.

How to Provide Excellent Customer Service through Twitter

Use Monitoring Tools

In order to provide customer service on Twitter, you need to know what people are saying about you, about their needs and about the industry in which you work. This can be easily accomplished by routinely checking various resources, including:

Monitter

TweetBeep

Twitter Search

TweetScan

Be Responsive…And Quickly

Because Twitter is a public forum, acting fast is necessary, especially in a situation when someone is expressing disgruntlement with your own services. You should acknowledge the issue and offer a resolution as quickly as possible.

Watch for Dissatisfaction

When you’re monitoring Twitter, especially with keywords, take note of tweets that focus on frustration and discontent around the types of services you offer. While the unhappy client may not be a client of yours, watching for complaints can help you identify someone as a potential client. If their reasons for dissatisfaction are areas where you excel, they may welcome and appreciate you reaching out to them.

Google and Microsoft that intend to influence Web users’ search habits has launched fierce battle.According to the latest news, Google will soon let consumers buy and listen to music from its search-results page, which is Google’s latest wave of attack.

The move comes as Google is facing its biggest competition in years from Microsoft, which has launched its Bing search engine in June and has struck a partnership with Yahoo.

At an Internet industry conference, Microsoft trumpeted deals with Facebook and Twitter that will let Bing better search public content that people post to those services — an effort to get an edge over Google in searching ‘real-time’ information.

Google fired back later in the day, announcing it had reached a similar deal with Twitter and by demonstrating a new tool for searching social networks.

Google’s and Microsoft’s moves mark a new phase in the rivals’ multi-year battle to build a better search engine by outdoing each other on technology and, increasingly, by adding content and additional features.

Microsoft launched Bing in early June, hoping to steal users from Google by providing more detailed content in certain areas, such as shopping and travel.

Google won’t earn revenue from the music partnership, said people familiar with the matter, but is doing it to stay relevant in the search market.

Sean Parker , a managing partner at Founder’s Fund , gave an interesting talk today at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco. The key to it is simple: Facebook, Twitter, Apple, and eBay will dominate the web going forward. One company of note that won’t? Google.

Why? Parker believes we’re shifting from the first phase of the Internet, which was dominated by what he calls “information services” These are companies like Google and Yahoo. But next up to dominate the web will be the “network services” like Facebook and Twitter, he believes.

To be clear, he thinks Google will stay huge and relevant, but it’s dominance will go down because collecting data is less valuable than connecting people, he said.

Twitterfeed is currently the most popular tool for RSS tracking and content distribution in the Twitter platform. When the user submit an RSS source to Twitterfeed, it will track regularly and update the contents to the Twitter platform synchronously.Of course, you can choose to synchronize to the Facebook or other social networking site. Recently, the founder announced they would support the real-time RSS protocol of PubSubHubbub, which means that after you have just posted the log, TF can immediately receive your article and distribute it to each network platform. Of course, the premise is that your blog platform also supports PubSubHubbub protocol.

The birth of PubSubHubbub transits the “slow network” era to the “instant network” era.It reinforces the concept of data-driven web site.

Official corporate accounts: Companies that hit a certain threshold of followers could pay a monthly fee for a Twitter account and a per-tweet fee. The per-tweet fee could be super low, something like five cents. The cumulative effect of this alone would be huge! (This has been rumored for some time now.)

Cost-per-follower engagement ads: Individuals and companies could place follower invitations as discreet ads on the Twitter sidebar. (It would be kind of like Facebook’s “Become a Fan” engagement ads.) The more targeted the follower based on demographics, content, or geography, the more expensive. For example, Best Buy could pay $0.50 per follower for people who signed up (followed) for its Deal-of-the-Day tweets.

New account follower co-registration: Companies could acquire followers during the Twitter signup process before those new users are following tons of other companies and people. Twitter could simply offer “do you want to follow these accounts” as quick check boxes as a last step in the signup process based on profile info and bio descriptions. Just like standard newsletter co-reg. The options would be very limited and targeted based on the new user information. Many companies would be willing to pay $1 per follower for these Twitter newbies.

Dashboards and analytics: Brands could pay for dashboards, alerts reporting mentions of their brands and products, and blinded demographic and geographic info on who was talking about them.

Crowdsourcing and polls: How about a Twitter forum/question of the day section by topic? People answer your questions and their answers show up as a tweet in their account, thereby promoting the question or poll. Pollsters would also be able to pay to get demographic info and promote the poll.

Links and custom templates: Give people and companies more options to in terms of what they do with the background and bio real estate. For example, let companies pay $100 per month to customize certain portions of their page more. People may be willing to pay it as well.

Custom events: OK, so Twitter is already experimenting with this. But you first you have to have an event!

Targeted ads: Twitter could do very targeted text or buttons at the bottom and sides of the pages. And it could charge based on CPC or CPM . These ads could be targeted by content, registration information, geography, and more. After the initial shock, people will accept it.
